Spring Colors

Winter in Korea is very brown. When it snows the landscape looks pretty in white and black, but after the snow melts, everything is brown for months. Spring in Korea arrives slowly with flowers. First the yellow. Then the bright pink. Then the clouds of white. Finally many green colors arrive all at once: leaves, grass, and new rice fields.
For the past few weeks, I have enjoyed seeing the yellow forsythia and the bright pink rhododendron flowers among the bare trees in the mountains and on campus. This week the cherry blossoms are at their peak, in full bloom. The blossoms seem to make everyone smile.
